Long-life cream

A decade ago, across the barren plains of Winchester, there was a music event, which changed the face of the world as we know it ...

Ok, well not quite but it certainly caused quite a stir in the hearts and minds of dance fiends nationwide as the original large-scale electronic music event.

Creamfields celebrates it's 10th anniversary this year, returning on 23rd-24th August bank holiday weekend, to it's home amid the hills and meadows outside Liverpool. Striving to secure it's next 10 years atop the dance music tree, the festival has a packed, impressive line-up this year – still fresh and buzzing from Cream club's 'Best Club of the Last 25 Years' win in May at the Mixmag Anniversary Awards.

That's two fingers up to the Hacienda, Fabric, Ministry of Sound et al!

Scene innovators such as Erol Alkan and DJ Switch will be present among the likes of favourites Fatboy Slim, 2manydjs, Paul Oakenfold and Underworld. That is not to mention Kasabian and Ian Brown who will be bringing up the eclectic balance that makes this event so accessible – dubbed by Virtual Festivals as, 'the most imaginative line up this summer.'

A whole host of new acts have been added to the line-up and now, less than two weeks away, is a sure-fire treat for you with the likes of Gorillaz Sound System, Cut Copy, Freelance Hellraiser, The Clik Clik and oh, so many more, including a host of DJs in the Residents Terrace, where you can take a peek at the nationwide scenes, all from the comfort of one convenient locale.

What's more, for the first time this year the bods at Cream are offering camping so you can continue the experience 24/7. Now there's a reason to travel to Merseyside besides seeing ex-Beatles drumming on rooftops.

Not wanting to be seen as behind the times (as if), Creamfields have seized the opportunity to tackle green initiatives at this year's festival. They've teamed up with Liftshare to offer attendees the chance to share cars to the site to cut back those nasty carbon emissions, they'll be a fancy dress party where any left outfits will be donated to Oxfam – this goes for any of you leaving your tents lying around too. These are just a few of the good deeds offered up for the environment – let's not forget the recycling and solar power shall we.

If you're lucky enough to be baby-faced and eternally youthful, leave your passport at home this year. In association with Validate UK, Cream are offering attendees a chance to apply for a proof-of-age card with a 10% discount.
