Residing in a grandiose old ex–bank, complete with Gone With The Wind style staircase, this big ol' bookstore looks pretty monumental on the outside and is crammed full of books on the inside. Just a short stroll from New Street, it's handy for picking up a novel to read on the train. Stick around for longer and you might catch some celeb or other (or perhaps even a proper writer) doing a book signing here. The branch at Birmingham University is a better option for those after specific academic books.
