Alexandra Theatre
The beer-stained carpets and brass fittings that are shinier than Mr Sheen's knobs make this feel more like a working men's club than a theatre. Thankfully what's onstage is a little more inviting. There's a fine mélange of touring musicals, comedians, pantomimes and a few other entertaining bits and bobs. The high arched stage means visibility from the circle is just as good as the stalls, so save the extra few quid and spend it on something strong during the interval (just in case the last bit's not worth staying awake for).
